Section 1. Eligible/Acceptable artwork

  1. SVAL dues must be current.
  2. Original work in any style is accepted.
  3. We welcome three-dimensional artwork.
  4. ALL mediums are welcomed.
  5. Artwork may not have been entered in a previous SVAL show.
  6. Up to two pieces may be entered; smaller works encourage sales.
  7. Your second entry can be a series of small pieces. (See Section #2 - Size Limitations.)
  8. Acceptance will be at the discretion of the curators receiving the work. Curators will aim to accept AT LEAST one piece from each member who registers for the show. A second piece may be displayed if space is available. Curators have discretion in selecting which of a member’s pieces best fit in the show. Curators will install as many pieces of artwork as the gallery can accommodate. Unfortunately, we do not have unlimited space. If your piece is not accepted, you will be notified via email and/or text and you must pick up the artwork the day before the reception. Thank you for your understanding and participation in our exhibition process.
  9. All artwork must be dry, appropriately framed or museum wrapped, with wire for hanging. No saw-toothed hooks, brackets, table frames, and exposed glass edges are allowed. (See diagram at end of prospectus.)
  10. If canvas is not framed, the edge of the canvas must be neatly painted. The edges should either be an extension of the image, or match the predominant color of the background. No white edges if the background is not predominantly white.
  11. Artwork must be ready for hanging on the Red House Gallery hanging system.
  12. Three-dimensional artwork must be able to stand alone on a pedestal, or be ready for hanging. If it requires a stand for display, you must provide it.

Members registering a large piece (30 inches or greater in height or width) are encouraged to also enter a smaller piece, in case there is insufficient room for their large piece.
  3. Curators may limit the number of three-dimensional pieces requiring shelves or pedestals, due to the number of available display locations for 3-D pieces. Curators will display as many 3-D pieces as practical. Members are encouraged to enter at least one wall-hanging piece, in case there is insufficient room for all 3-D pieces.
  4. No wall-hanging pieces over 15 pounds will be accepted. 3-D pieces for display on a pedestal may not weigh more than 20 pounds.
