OPEN STUDIO SESSIONS

PORTRAIT PAINTING & FIGURE DRAWING

These classes are OPEN STUDIO SESSIONS. There will be a live model, and there will be various poses in the figure drawing session, and a single pose in the portrait session. No instruction is provided! These sessions are designed to provide access to live model figurative art. Artists of all skill levels are invited to participate - all mediums are welcomed. *Please use only odor-free solvents in this venue.

There is a MODEL FEE of $15 per session for attendees, payable at session time with cash only.

• PORTRAIT SESSION (long pose): Tuesdays from 10:00am - 1:00pm
• FIGURE DRAWING SESSION (short poses): Wednesdays from 10:00am - 1:00pm

Class size limited to 8 artists due to studio size.

DISCOVERY AMONGST KINDRED SPIRITS

Every Tuesday from 1:30pm - 4:30 pm in the Red House education room, except new show take-in Tuesdays.

Bring your favorite - or wannabe favorite - or not so favorite - or not new to you - medium & project, and create while you share space with other creative types. 

All mediums and projects welcome!

group for water-based painters

Third Saturday of each month from 2:00pm - 4:00 pm in the Red House art education room.

Open to SVAL members working in any water-based painting medium or interested in learning more. Each member can bring a few works to share with the group and any painting equipment or ideas.

Plein Air group

Let's Paint Together!

2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 9:00am - Noon. Locations vary!

Plein air means painting or drawing on location, in the natural light. Everyone is responsible for bringing their own art supplies and a chair if you need one.  We will meet up at the end to share our artwork and socialize. Bring a bag lunch if you have the time to sit and relax afterwards.

SVAL Art Book Club

Let's read Together!

Starting Fall 2025!

We'll read and discuss fiction or non-fiction art books, essays or podcasts. Our first book is “Girl in Hyacinth Blue” by Susan Vreeland. It is a novel written in 1999 but considered a great book for lovers of art. It’s an easy read and is available at online book stores or through the public library system. Also bring a suggestion for our next book to read!

RED house photographers

INSPIRATION & FELLOWSHIP

Second Saturday of each month from 10:00-12:00 in the Red House education room.

THE RED HOUSE PHOTOGRAPHERS meet to exchange knowledge and experiences, and find inspiration and fellowship in life behind the camera. All camera types, photography styles, and skill levels are welcome. Bring at least 5 images on a USB flash drive to share and discuss. After everyone has shared 5 images, we go around again sharing additional images if time allows.
