The Red House Gallery & Studios offer several opportunities for SVAL members to exhibit and sell their artwork and related merchandise on consignment, including:
- Exhibitions
- Gallery Print Bins and Card Rack
- Book, Calendar and Boxed Card Shelves
- Gallery Wall/Shelf Space
- Studios
Members who wish to take advantage of any of these opportunities must ensure that their work is in the Red House's computerized inventory system. All pieces sold through the Red House (including the website) must be physically located at the Red House.
SVAL partners with the Black Mountain Center for the Arts (BMCA) to promote one show each year at BMCA. BMCA also has other exhibitions that may be available to SVAL members, and can host solo shows for qualified artists. See the BMCA Call For Artists here.
If you are not yet a SVAL member, read Membership Has Privileges to learn about the advantages and privileges of membership. You can join the League on the Join / Renew Membership page.
The Basic Process
If you're just starting out, follow the five steps below to get your works into our inventory system and placed in the Red House. If you already have works in our inventory system, skip Steps 1 and 2. (Note: Exhibition entries follow a separate submission process.)
1. Choose Your Opportunity
Choose the opportunity (or opportunities) that best suit(s) your artwork, interests, and budget (see Opportunity Details below).
New members typically start by entering their artwork in an exhibition and/or selling prints, small original art, or note cards in the gallery print bins and card rack. If you're interested in renting a Gallery Wall/Shelf Space or Studio, you'll have to add your name to a wait list.
2. Decide on a Method for Sending a Consignment List and Photos
Read How to Submit Artwork to the Red House and decide on a method (ArtCloud or email) for sending your consignment list and photos of your artwork. (We require a photo of each item for our inventory system.)
These methods apply to all new inventory intended for the gallery bins, card rack, rented walls, and studios. If you want to enter new artworks into an exhibition, follow the process on the exhibition registration page (when the exhibition is opened for entries).
3. Create and Send Your Consignment List and Photos
Create and send your consignment list and photos using the method you chose in Step 2 (ArtCloud or email). Follow the instructions in How to Submit Artwork to the Red House.
Wait for the volunteer Red House Inventory Team to approve your consignment. Please allow up to two business days for approval. Once your consignment is approved, we will send you a label document and a personal Inventory Report (both as PDFs).
4. Print Tags/Labels
Using the PDF provided by the Red House, print labels and wall tags (if applicable). Follow the instructions in How to Submit Artwork to the Red House.
5. Bring in Your Art!
Bring in your labeled artwork and wall tags (if applicable) to the Red House.
For subsequent artwork submissions, repeat Steps 3, 4 and 5.
If your work sells, the Red House will pay you the sale amount less a commission fee (varies). Payments are made monthly.
